New project book out Open Access!

We are delighted to share the news that Liturgy, Literature, and History. Oswald of Northumbria and the Cult of Saints in the Middle Ages has been published by the British Academy.

The book, which uses Oswald of Northumbria as a case study to understand the dynamics of saintly cults in the Middle Ages, is edited by project Principal Investigator Johanna Dale and includes an essay by project Co-Investigator Sarah Bowden alongside nine other essays looking at Oswald’s cult in England, the German-speaking world and Scandinavia.

Thanks to our project being funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the book is available open access as a freely downloadable PDF or EPUB. For those that prefer their books in physical form, it is currently available with a 20% discount on the Liverpool University Press website!
